Richland County Recreation Commission has been awarded $90,000 from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program.

University of South Carolina geographers Dr. Kirstin Dow and Dr. Ed Carr are among 800 of the world’s top scientists who will have key roles in compiling an international science report on global climate change. The report will be published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as early as 2013.

Stuart Hamilton Laura Comstock, CSP, of Lexington was honored by the American Society of Safety Engineers for sponsoring a poster contest winner and the winner’s family to attend the NAOSH Week recognition and kick–off events with several officials in Washington, DC, at the U.S. Capitol, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Smithsonian Institution, and the National Zoo.

John M. Hamilton, pastor of New Life Baptist Church on Ashland Road received the doctor of divinity degree (honorary). The Reverend Doctor Neal Weaver, president of Louisiana Baptist University and Theological Seminary, Shreveport, La. traveled to Columbia to confer the degree during the morning service at New Life Baptist Church Sunday July 4. Nola Armstrong (The Gillespie Agency), Will Gilfillan (Bella Banks Properties LLC), James Newson (Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company), Ian Picow (King’s Jewelers), Delilah Jackson, (Wingate University), and Jessica Retzer (Novo Nordisk) are the newly–elected members to the board of directors at Palmetto Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for 2011–2013.
