Six residents of Columbia neighborhoods were inducted into the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CNN) Hall of Fame on Saturday night, June 26 at the 32nd annual CCN’s Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Columbia Marriott Hotel.

The inductees were Elise Martin from the Jones–McDonald Neighborhood, Isaac McClinton Sr. from the Edisto Court Neighborhood, Mary Myers from the Gable Oaks Tenants Association, Brenda Oliver from the Pinehurst Neighborhood, Tige Watts a past president of the CCN, and Harriet Gardin Fields from the Greenview Neighborhood. Also, Fred Hornick from the Yorkshire Neighborhood received the 2010 CCN Friend of the Year award. The 2010 Neighborhood Volunteer of the Year award went to Dorothy Gordon from the Jones–McDonald Neighborhood.

The last award of the night, the 2010 CCN Award of Special Recognition, was awarded to Mayor Bob Coble.

“I’ve been a neighborhood president for 20 years. I’m honored that they would recognize me here at the end,” said Mayor Coble.

The guest speaker, was Mayor–Elect Steve Benjamin. While Benjamin was honored to be guest speaker, he believed it was more about celebrating his predecessor.

The banquet honored residents of Columbia who gave their time and effort to help not only their neighborhoods but the city of Columbia; it also provided a stage for a merger between the CCN and the Columbia Business Community. Tony Lawton, the director of Community Development for the City of Columbia, presented Bessie Watson, the current president of the CCN, with a $10,000 check from the Columbia Business Community.
