Columbia loses one its favorites

Contributed by Riverbanks Zoo

Kimya, the youngest gorilla at Riverbanks, was found deceased by his keepers in his off–exhibit holding area June 28.

At this point in time, Riverbanks does not have information on the cause of death. Kimya showed no signs of illness or stress prior to Monday’s discovery. He has been transported to the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine for a complete necropsy to be conducted by exotic animal pathologists.

Kimya was born on January 11, 1994, at the Toledo Zoo. He came to Riverbanks in July 2004 along with Chaka (25) and Mike (18) from the Philadelphia Zoo.
