Open letter to Sally Roach, executive director of Township Auditorium

My husband and I attended the Tony Bennett concert last week, and enjoyed it immensely. We also thought the renovations were nicely done; it is a lovely facility.

What was not lovely, however, was that drinks and food were sold throughout the concert, which led to many concert–goers getting out of their seats constantly as they walked to and from the concession stands. In fact, they walked to and fro, in front of our row of seats near the front of the hall, for the entire concert. This certainly decreased our enjoyment of the evening.

I can perhaps understand a policy of selling concessions during a wrestling match, but not during a high–end (and high–priced) performance by a luminary such as Tony Bennett. It was not only rude to him but also distracting to us. (By contrast, at the Koger Center the concession stand is open only before a concert or during intermission.) If the Township wants to attract more sophisticated talent to its stage, which I understand you’d like to do, it seems appropriate to stop selling concessions during most performances.

If I had been Mr. Bennett, I would have been nonplussed by the constant comings and goings. Such a thoughtless policy lessens the chance that my husband and I will continue to frequent the Township.
