Rosewood Community Council members take steps to preserve neighborhood
A vote passed at the Rosewood Community Council meeting on June 17 to proceed with the next step in the process to make the interim measures protection for the entire Rosewood community permanent. According to Rosewood Community Council President Rebecca Munnerlyn the next step in this process is to write a letter to Amy Moore of Design, Development, & Review Commission (DDRC) to propose making the current level of community character protection more permanent.
Among the regulations of the interim measures protection is that structures over 50 years old cannot be demolished without the review, and homeowners must submit a plan for any new structures before any building starts.
If the interim measures, which have been in place in the Rosewood community for nearly a year, become permanent, Munnerlyn stresses that it is a minimal level of security. Steps can be taken if individual sections of Rosewood want additional protection with the support of the Rosewood Community Council.
The City of Columbia will conduct a vote among the property owners of Rosewood. Once the vote is completed and should the measure pass, the results will be taken to city council for approval. The process that Rosewood is following is the same as the Shandon Neighborhood successfully completed.
