Springdale Elementary School celebrates the arts
This year’s 10th anniversary of Springdale Elementary School’s Celebration of the Arts was held May 27 and 28. The students studied six countries (USA, Egypt, Australia, Italy, Mexico, and Japan). They created artwork, and learned a song and a dance based on each country.
The students were part of a parade where they performed the song and dance. There was a special student group performance, a kickoff party with local DJ Woody Windham, commemorative art creation on the school’s blacktop, and the students were able to “visit the countries” in Springdale’s gym.
Students received stickers in their passports as they viewed each table and were able to have a “taste of countries” with the cafeteria staff serving various foods from each country.
The second day of celebrations included visits from six artists who shared their talents: dancers, a puppet troupe, an illustrator, a string quartet, and a sculptor.
Each grade level was able to spend time with each artist as they presented their art form to the students. Some were able to have the children participate in the presentation.
