Richland One school on Newsweek’s list of Top High Schools in the Nation
Rigorous and challenging academic courses have placed A.C. Flora High
School on the 2010 Newsweek
magazine list of America’s Best High Schools.
Schools making Newsweek’s
annual ranking represent the top six percent of public high schools in the nation. Rankings are based on challenging course work and how students perform on college–level courses and tests.
Of the 16 South Carolina schools that made the list this year, Flora had the third highest ranking in the state. Nationwide, A.C. Flora ranked 386th among the 1,622 schools the magazine
selected. Newsweek
surveyed more than 27,000 high schools in the United States.
A.C. Flora Principal Richard McClure is thrilled about the honor especially because the only South Carolina schools with higher rankings are magnet schools. He credits his faculty, students, and parents for their outstanding support of academic excellence.
“Flora delivers a firstrate academic program,” said McClure. “We have outstanding support of our International Baccalaureate program and have expanded our Advanced Placement classes. Students are willing and eager to take these more rigorous courses. They want to be challenged academically.”
