Richland One teams win two S.C. track championships

Richland One schools blew out the competition at the state track meet May 15 at Lower Richland High School winning two state championships as well as nine first–place and ten second–place individual/team medals.

Led by junior Devin Wannamaker, Lower Richland defeated Battery Creek by one point to win its second consecutive boys’ class 3A championship.

Wannamaker placed first in the 400 meter hurdles, second in the 110– meter hurdles, second in the 100–meter race and fourth in the 200–meter race. Teammate Desmond Wallace edged out Wannamaker in the 110 hurdles to win that race.

Not to be outdone, the Eau Claire High School team won the girls’ 2A state championship and first place in the 4x100– meter relay, 4x400–meter relay, and 4x800–meter relay. Eau Claire’s Shame- ka McCaskill finished first in the 400–meter dash.

Dreher High School star sprinter Brandon Sanders captured first– place wins in the Class 3A boys 100 and 200–meter races.

Keenan’s Philip George won the high jump competition.
