I was in Columbia recently and picked up a

copy of The Columbia Star

where I read your open letter to Henry McMaster. You have written the best thing on the subject of his law suit I have read anywhere. You should really rework your letter as an op–ed for The State (the second best newspaper in Columbia).

You could quote Santayana – “Those who do not remember the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them.” I have always thought that anyone who has ever heard this quote is condemned to repeat it. South Carolina is, of course, the place where both remembering and repeating history have assumed the status of an art form.
