tBeltline Blvd. and Forest Drive: A 19–year–old man was arrested at 2:30 am Wednesday after the driver made an illegal right turn on red. When the officer pulled the man over he smelled alcohol on the man’s breath and saw an arm band on his wrist commonly given out at bars to indicate the person was of legal drinking age. The man admitted he had been drinking and said he was looking for an open fast food restaurant as he felt like he might be drunk. The officer asked him how much he had to drink, and the man asked if the officer meant beer or liquor. The officer said both, and the man said he wasn’t sure how much liquor he had to drink, but he thought he had had about three beers. When the officer asked him how he got served since he was underage, the man happily provided the officer with a Georgia driver’s license that he said he used if he were carded. After failing three field sobriety tests, the man was taken to jail and charged with driving under the influence.

tBethel Church Road, 4000 block: Police were called to a home at 12:30 pm Monday after a man said he received a letter saying obscene and vulgar things about his wife. The man said he believed the letter was written by a man his wife had been having an ongoing problem with at work. He took the letter to her place of employment, but the human resources department told him they couldn’t help because the letter was addressed to him, and he didn’t work there.

tTwo Notch Road, 3000 block: A woman called police at 10 am Wednesday after she said a man was stalking her. The 28–year–old woman told officers she had taken her car in for servicing in February, and the man was an employee at the mechanic shop. She said he got her number from the paperwork she filled out and has been calling her and showing up at her work trying to start a relationship with her she has no interest in starting. On Wednesday she said the man came to her workplace and continuously made lewd comments about her body in front of customers. Police served the man with a no trespassing notice and warned him to stay away from the woman.

tForest Drive, 3400 block: Police were called to a business at 9 pm Sunday after the manager said she was approached by a man regarding an employee. The human resources manager said the man came into her office and asked what he could tell her to get a female employee fired. When she asked him what he meant, she said the man began to regale her with stories about the employee’s sexual exploits involving other company employees. The woman told the man that the employee’s private life was her own and called police. When officers ran the man’s name, it said that the employee already had a restraining order against the man and coming to her workplace was in violation of that.

West Columbia

tMeeting Street, 100 block: A man was arrested on a warrant at 10:30 pm Wednesday after an officer recognized him as he was walking oddly down the street. When the officer approached him and informed him he had a warrant, the 65–year–old man began to get angry and started accusing “snitches” of turning him in. He told the officer he hoped the officer would “enjoy the promotion” he would receive for arresting him. The man had a jelly jar with him that smelled of alcohol and offered the officer a drink. The officer declined and took the man to jail.

tD Avenue, 1300 block: A woman called police at 9:30 am Tuesday after she said a man threatened her after his car was repossessed. The woman told officers the company repossessed the man’s car because he didn’t have any insurance on the vehicle, and he still owes more than $5,000 on it. She said the man had been calling continuously that morning and threatening to come down and get his car back. She said he was using foul language and saying lewd things to her. She said he told her he would come to the businesses at 5 pm that day and damage all the vehicles on the lot. Since he gave an exact time, officers were waiting on him, but he never showed.

t12th Street, 100 block: It was a bad meal for a man at 5 pm Thursday when he hit another car while leaving a fast food restaurant. The accident happened across from police headquarters so when officers promptly arrived the 39–year–old man had to admit he had no driver’s license, no insurance and no registration. Additionally, he said that the tag on his vehicle actually belonged on another car he owned. He was charged with several violations and arrested.

tCharleston Highway, 1500 block: A man was apparently in dire need of underwear because he was arrested for stealing two pair at 8 pmThursday. Witnesses said the man came into a discount store, took a package containing two pairs of underwear from the shelf, and opened it. He stuffed one pair in his front pocket and one in his back pocket and left the store. He was detained, charged with shoplifting and taken to jail. The underwear was valued at $10.

Richland County

tTwo Notch Road, 5100 block: A man was arrested at 4 am Thursday after he sped past a police officer and began weaving in the roadway. The officer pulled him over and asked for his license. The man reeked of alcohol, and his speech was slurred,. When the officer asked for his license he handed over an identification card instead. The man was toddling on his feet and had trouble walking. When officers noticed a lump in his pants they had him empty his pockets, and he pulled out a wad of money and two bags of marijuana. A search of the car produced a bottle of whiskey under the front seat. The man was charged with an alcohol violation, speeding, and possession of drugs.
