Back home at the CN corral

With a new facility at a new location on the horizon, Cardinal Newman’s Auction Committee, in a nostalgic move, brought the school’s major fund raising event back home to the Cardinal Newman campus.
Mary Black, this year’s auction chair said she was “anxious to bring the auction back to campus because it felt nostalgic, and it seemed prudent due to the impending move to a new site. It was also nice to get the students more involved.”
The gym was all decked out in western fashion with hay bales, western style building facades, and even a Conestoga wagon. But the real draw was a cafeteria full of silent auction items ranging from parties, artwork, and jewels to leisure time packages, awesome vacations, and an array of Cardinal memorabilia.
There were plenty of live auction goodies available as well, including a precious black lab puppy and a snazzy Jaguar automobile.

This year’s fund–a–project was the construction of a classroom in the new school. During the silent auction, the patrons could pledge contributions toward the construction of the 2010 Cardinal Corral Auction Classroom. All contributors’ names will be displayed on a plaque to be displayed outside of that classroom.
As the room filled with bidders and the curious, the gym transformed. Folks came dressed in their finest western regalia. The CN Band and the Mo Bros provided musical entertainment for the evening. There were cowboy hats, suede fringed jackets, and an amazing collection of cowboy boots.
Auctioneer Jim Deyling was back for his third year. This year he was a happy fellow because he finally had an excuse to wear his cowboy boots with his tux. As he showed off his impressive pair of stylish black cowboy boots Deyling said, “These auctions are a lot of fun. Great people come out and help raise a fair amount of money for the school.”
