• McSwain Drive, 100 block: A 45–year–old woman was arrested at 12:30 am. Tuesday after a man called from a motel saying the woman was harassing him. The 54–year–old man told police the woman was beating on the door of his room and wouldn’t leave. When officers arrived, the woman told them the man had slapped her face and busted her lip, but there were no marks or signs of a struggle on her face, a report said. The man declined to press charges and asked officers to make the woman go away because she was no longer welcome in his room. Because the woman reeked of alcohol and had slurred speech and trouble standing, the officers asked her if she had been drinking. She told them that she hadn’t had “much” to drink but admitted that she and the man had split a fifth of vodka. She was charged with public drunkenness and taken to jail.

• Holland Avenue, 1000 block: Police were called to a home at noon Tuesday after a woman called and said her boyfriend had beaten her up after she hid his cocaine because she suspected he was seeing another woman. The 27–year–old woman told officers that the argument started when she questioned the 25–year–old man about the other woman, and he got mad. She said that was when she hid his cocaine, and he became violent, throwing furniture and her belongings around the house. She said she tried to run, but he grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the floor and threatened to kill her if she didn’t tell him where the drugs were. After about two hours, the woman said she was able to escape and run to a nearby office to call police. The woman said she and the man didn’t live together, but he was the father of her two children, ages two and five.

• Augusta Road, 200 block: A 46–year–old woman was arrested at 7:30 pm Tuesday after she called police to say her 62–year–old husband was attacking her. When officers arrived, they heard screaming but the woman denied ever saying her husband had hit her. She changed her story to say her son had attacked her. The husband told officers he had simply come home to get his Bible to go to Bible study at his church and found the woman drunk. Her son and his girlfriend were at the home, and the husband said the drunken woman began to accuse him of sleeping with the son’s girlfriend. He said he tried to get his Bible and leave but the woman began to punch him in the head and scratch his arms and chest. The son tried to pull his mother off the husband and when he did, she called police and accused them of beating her. The husband had not been drinking and his wounds confirmed his story so the woman was charged with assault and taken to jail.

• Augusta Road, 2400 block: A man and woman were arrested at 2 am Wednesday after police spotted them simultaneously urinating in a parking lot. The 30–year–old man was behind the woman urinating on a car tire and the 33–year–old woman had her pants down all the way and was squatting in the parking lot half naked, a report said. When officers approached they realized the two were intoxicated when the woman asked the officer if he was “a cop” in spite of his obvious uniform. As she got up to pull her pants back on, she stumbled and fell and when she regained her balance she put her hands in the air in a surrendering fashion. When they were informed that they were being charged with public indecency and public drunkenness, they both became irate and began yelling obscenities at the officers. After cuffing them, both people resisted arrest and had to be physically placed in the police car for transport to jail so additional charges were possible.

Forest Acres:

• Trenholm Road, 5000 block: A 26–year–old man was arrested at 3 am Thursday after an officer found him dozing at a red light at an intersection. The report said the officer pulled up behind the man’s car and flipped on the siren when the car didn’t move when the light turned green. The officer approached the car and found the man asleep, his head resting on the steering wheel and his foot on the brake. The officer tapped on the window and woke the man up and told him to turn off the car. The man tried but failed and then drove off after a few stops and starts trying to comply with the officer’s instructions. The officer followed him and again pulled him over and asked him repeatedly if he had anything to drink, to which the man also repeatedly replied “no, thank you.” The driver then apparently wanted to be sociable and told the officer that he remembered him from a previous speeding ticket. While trying to perform the field sobriety test, the man told the officer that he was a “nice guy,” and the he worked for a law firm and was on several non–profit committees including working with the Girl Scouts. After he failed the field test, the man agreed to take the breath test and blew a .15%. When he saw his results he told the officer that he wanted to confess to having a glass of champagne and a glass of wine. He was charged with driving under the influence.

• Forest Drive, 4700 block: A 27–year–old woman was arrested at 4 pm Tuesday after she tried to fake a prescription at a pharmacy. Pharmacy employees became suspicious when the caller ordering the drugs said she worked for a doctor in Washington and was calling in pills for a local woman. The pharmacist called the doctor’s office and was told that they never ordered the prescription, but the name of the recipient was an ex–employee of the office. Police told the pharmacy to fill the prescription and simply waited for the woman to come in to pick it up. When she did she was charged with a narcotics violation.
