DANCEWORDZ, a freelance production duo (H.G. Robert and Wayland Anderson) that wr ites, choreographs, and stages original and cutting–edge shows by fusing poetry with ballet, will premiere “Africa” February 19–20, 8 pm at the CMFA Ar t Space, 914 Pulaski Street, Columbia.

DANCEWORDZ will celebrate Black History Month and women’s strength with the premiere of its original one act theatrical–poetic–ballet, “Africa.” The work will aim to reconnect the African–American culture with its native roots by portraying the rise and fall of three generations of African women. The piece will fuse spoken word, def jam, and afrobeat with a ballet based contemporary movement repertoire.

The narrative story and music of Africa was created and wr itten by award–winning laureate poet, H.G. Rober t, and was staged and choreographed by professional ballet dancer, Wayland Anderson.

The duo has collaborated on several projects in the past years including three previous shows in Columbia. In 2008, they founded their own dance company, DANCEWORDZ.
