Molly Rainwater had 14 points to lead the Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals to a 39–26 victory over the Ben Lippen Lady Falcons on Tuesday, February 2, avenging an overtime loss at home three weeks before.

The Lady Falcons started off strong defensively, as they forced six Cardinal Newman turnovers in the first quarter. Senior Sarah Yeakel scored seven points in the period, and Ben Lippen took a 9–6 lead after the first frame.

Cardinal Newman (8–10, 4–3) righted the ship in the second quarter behind balanced scoring. Rainwater, Alex August, and Danielle Shaw all had four points in the first half, and Shaw’s basket with under a minute remaining gave the Lady Cardinals a 16–15 lead at the break.

The first five minutes of the third quarter were a sloppy affair, as the two teams combined for 12 missed shots, five turnovers, four held balls, and one lone basket by Rainwater. But Anna Beth Cook’s basket inside three minutes re-maining tied the score at 18 for the Lady Falcons (8–12, 2–4).

The Lady Cardinals went on a 16–0 run over an eight–minute span. The Cardinals had extended their lead to 34–18 before Elizabeth Hodges hit a three– point basket for Ben Lippen to stop the bleeding. The Lady Falcons got to within nine at 35–26 with just under a minute to go, but Tringali hit two lay ups to create the final margin.

Tringali had 10 points and six rebounds for Cardinal Newman, and August contributed seven points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. Yeakel finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Ben Lippen.

The Lady Cardinals host region leader Augusta Christian on Friday, February 5, while the Lady Falcons host Hammond the same night.
