United Way of the Midlands recognizes contributors
Reverend Father Michael Platanis, Presiding Pr iest at Holy Tr inity Greek Orthodox Church did the invocation for the evening. He was also presented with a Lamar Award, introduced for the f ir st time this year that recognized “Best pr iest in a T–shi r t” after he modeled the signT–shirt at the 2009 event last year.
United Way of the Midlands recognized the companies and individuals who contributed to the 2009–10 campaign at an event held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Tuesday, January 26, 2010. United Way announced that the Campaign has reached 94% of the $10.2 million goal this year.

Community Champion Award for most dollars raised was presented to BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Presenting the award are Mac Bennett, United Way of the Midlands President and CEO and Jim Lehman, United Way of the Midlands Chairman of the Board. Accepting the award and representing BlueCross BlueShield of SC are Tim Vaughn and Anne Castro.
Hosts for the evening and 2009–2010 Campaign Co–Chairs, Scott Shockley of Lamar Advertising and Pamela Lackey from AT&T.
The second Community Champion Award for the campaign that went above and beyond was presented to Colonial Life. Again, presenters are Mac Bennett, United Way of the Midlands President and CEO and Jim Lehman, United Way of the Midlands Chairman of the Board. Accepting for Colonial Life are Bill Harmon, Donna Northam and Marie McGehee.
