Scouting for food The Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America will conduct its annual Scouting for Food Drive this month as part of a national initiative that brings in millions of pounds of food for the hungry across the country. The initiative is a part of the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary celebration of service to others throughout the community and nation. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Venturers throughout the Midlands will go door–to–door on Saturday, February 6 delivering bags provided by Publix Supermarkets in hopes that residents fill them with non–perishable food items. The Scouts will return on Saturday, February 13 to pick up the filled bags and deliver them directly to local food pantries, including Harvest Hope. Based on previous years, the Scouts hope to bring-in 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food for the hungry through this drive. “We are excited to celebrate a century of service to the community in ways that make a difference,” said Doug Stone, Scout Executive of the Indian Waters Council. “With thousands of area Scouts collecting food and delivering it directly to local service providers, we know that will be very meaningful for others, particularly this time of year when holiday food donations begin to run out.” For more information on Scouting for Food or the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, please go to or or contact Doug Stone at 803-750-9868. |
