Bearcats named to All–America soccer teams
Brookland–Cayce seniors Sarah Johnson and Taylor Lewis have been named to the NSCAA Scholar All–America soccer teams for 2009. The pair are the first Bearcats to achieve this national honor.
In order to qualify, players must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better (on a 4.0 scale), must have demonstrated excellence in soccer at the high school level, and must have performed service in his or her community. Nationally, only 35 boys and 36 girls were named to this prestigious All–American team. The players were recognized at the NSCAA National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa., January 16, 2010.
Lewis, who earned All–State honors as a junior in prep soccer, has committed to play collegiate soccer at the College of Charleston, while Johnson will decide on her academic and athletic pursuits in the coming weeks.
In addition, both the B–C boys and girls soccer programs earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, which recognizes the team’s overall GPA of 3.25 or higher. The boys squad, coached by Kevin Heise, has achieved this honor five consecutive years, while the girls team, coached by Katie Smith, has received this recognition three straight years.
Both varsity soccer teams are ranked in the Class 3A Top 10 preseason polls.
