Change could be coming to Rosewood community

By Josh Cruse

Change could be coming to the residents on Oceola, Howard, and Maple Streets. Maria Fernandez, a real estate broker in Columbia, announced her plans to improve that area of Columbia to the Rosewood Community Council on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Fernandez say she wants to remove four storage sheds that are currently on Maple Street. Then she wants to move the one story brick building that is on Oceola Street closer to the corner of Oceola and Maple. Fernandez says she also wants to build three single family homes on Howard Street. She also has plans for the one story building at 506 Howard Street. First, she is asking the city of Columbia for a property variance to give an extra three feet of property between the building and the neighboring property. Fernandez is also planning to renovate the one story building.

Officer Long with the Columbia Police Department said to be careful if leaving your car unattended while warming it up on the cold mornings Columbia has been experiencing recently. She says this makes them susceptible to theft.
