More than 35 martial arts schools from around the state will participate in the first annual “Kicks for Kids” Kick–A–Thon February 6, 2010.

“Kicks for Kids” is a statewide effort to support the work of the S.C. Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers. The organization is dedicated to helping local communities deal effectively with allegations of child abuse while putting the needs of the victims first.

Kick–A–Thon participants seek to complete 100 karate kicks during a one–hour event and have collected pledges based on this goal. Event coordinator Bill Sanford is confident in the students’ ability. “They know they’re doing this for an excellent cause – to help kids that may never be able to do something like this,” he said. “The martial arts teach us to give back, and this is a great way to do that.”

As an added bonus, certified black belts will conduct demonstrations showcasing the stunning physical power, agility, grace, and precision that exemplifies the martial arts at their highest levels. Masters from each school will be on hand to answer any questions and provide information.

Each of the participating karate schools offers a full and challenging curriculum for students of all ages. Improved physical fitness and enhanced confidence and leadership skills are just some of the benefits students gain from martial arts.

The S. C. Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers was founded in 2000 and is the state chapter of the National Children’s Alliance.
