Fifty three dogs and cats died today. That’s how many we have to leave behind in Midlands area shelters to be euthanized every single day. Won’t you please help us save more of them?

Those at Project Pet try to focus on the positive and concentrate on the lives they are able to save with your help, but the fact is, the state of homeless pets in the Richland and Lexington counties is nothing short of tragic. And they desperately need your help.

The facts are hard to face, but it’s time we stand up and address them.

FACT: Each year in Richland and Lexington Counties over 23,000 dogs and cats enter municipal shelters.

FACT: Each year over 19,500 of these same pets are euthanized due to lack of space and resources.

FACT: Two–thirds of the dogs and cats euthanized are pets—healthy, happy, and ready for a new home and 30% of those animals are purebreds.

FACT: A dog or cat picked up by animal control has five days to live.

FACT: A pet that is surrendered to a municipal shelter by its owner is euthanized the same day.

FACT: $2.5 million taxpayer dollars are spent each year to pick up, house, and euthanize these pets.

If you commit to $25 each week, we can save an additional 12 lives this year. When you think about it, your $25 is life. Those at Project Pet cannot do this work alone. Expenses are on the rise and resources are at an all time low. They need your help to help them.

Project Pet is the only animal rescue organization in the Midlands dedicated to the rescue of municipal shelter pets scheduled for euthanasia. They pull dogs and cats from the shelters daily and provide the medical care and social interactions needed to place them in loving, forever homes.

It’s the dirty little secret in our community that no one likes to talk about: 53 dogs and cats died today.

There is another way. Join the 25 for Life Club today.
