Falcons developing
The 2008–2009 season was a rebuilding one for Ben Lippen wrestling and its coach Cal Schoon. With two returning seniors, Coach Schoon hopes to build off last year’s 5–4 effort.
Bobby Carle and Jason Blackwell should provide the leadership that Coach Schoon is looking for. Junior Sammy Joe White and sophomore Richard McCain are other wrestlers who Coach Schoon is expecting great things from.
For Coach Schoon to have the success he is looking for this year, he is going to rely on his guys in the lightweights and heavyweights to carry the team. Currently, there are two wrestlers in the middleweight class for Coach Schoon, and, while they are beginners, he expects they have the ability to develop quickly.
“My expectation for this year’s squad is for the younger guys to develop. They still have a good bit of growing to do. So far I’m very pleased. I also want a couple of guys to place in the state tournament. I expect Bobby Carle, Jason Blackwell, and Sammy Joe White to place. I’m more focused on individual wins than team wins right now,” Coach Schoon says.
