Ron Allen Barrett
Ron Barrett graduated from A.C. Flora High School in 1964. He played guitar with “The Swingin, Singin, Counts,” a local Columbia band.
Ron received a law degree from USC and was admitted to the Bar in 1971. He practiced family law and was highly regarded in the Guardian Ad Litem program.
Ron was devoted to his wife, Susan; his son, Thorn Barrett and his wife Jenna; and his grandson, Lake Barrett.
Ron was one of the original members of Heart ’n Soul. He had a great ear for music and was a tremendous help in working out arrangements. He was always upbeat and smiling. Ron loved jazz music, particularly guitar. He especially loved the 50s and 60s music chosen as the specialty of Heart ’n Soul.
After a relatively short illness, Ron passed away October 11, 2009. He did not want a funeral but rather a party. Susan made sure Ron got his final wish, and on October 18 friends and family gathered at Doc’s Barbeque on Shop Road to celebrate his life. The event was attended by more than 150 people who were fortunate to have know this kind and compassionate man.
