Organization moves by bike
Palmetto Cycling Coalition members move from Pickens Street to the new offices at the Abacus planning Group offices.
Despite the frigid weather and impending rain December 12, approximately 30 cyclists helped the Palmetto Cycling Coalition (PCC) make the move from 215 Pickens Street to an office space within the new Abacus Planning Group offices in Columbia.
Contributing their trailers, saddlebags, or even just backpacks to transport supplies, the cyclists were able to move all of their belongings in a single trip. The largest item moved was a four– drawer filing cabinet, which was effortlessly transported by Jason Craig, sustainability director at USC’s Green Quad, on his homemade trailer.
The Abacus Planning Group financial planning firm and long– time PCC and bicycle advocacy supporter generously offered an office space at no cost to the Coalition. “The generosity of Abacus Planning Group is phenomenal for a small non–profit like ours,” says executive director Rachael Kefalos. “This contribution will allow the PCC to better achieve our mission of improving safety and accessibility for South Carolina’s bicyclists.”
Stuart Massey and Brian Havens carry full loads.
The move by bike may be the first of such documented moves to occur in South Carolina. Similar moves have been taking place for years in larger and more bicycle– friendly cities around the country, such as Portland, Oregon.
“Moving by bicycle is a great way to bring the community together, to burn some calories, and to reduce fossil fuel emissions. It is also a fantastic way to support the Palmetto Cycling Coalition and to show your support of bicycling in South Carolina,” says Kefalos.
