Engineering students receive top scores in Clemson fall project
Drew Stokes
Clemson University Freshman Drew Stokes (Ben Lippen HS Graduate 2009) and Kyle Turner (Lexington HS Graduate 2009), both of Lexington, who are majoring in Engineering, teamed up to earn one of the top scores in the Department of Engineer- ing’s Fall project.
Their project was to design, build, and test a T–shirt Launcher. The device was designed to safely launch T–shirts far up into the cheap seats at Littlejohn Coliseum. The main criteria for their assignment was for safety and accuracy.
As one of the top teams, Drew and Kyle received reserved seats at the Clemson–Illinois basketball game on December 2, where the Clemson Athletic Department let them demonstrate their launcher by shooting T–shirts as high as they could to the fans in the stands.
The Clemson University Department of Engineering website says, “CES 102 Project, Fall 2009 — our students in CES 102 were recently featured on our local NBC affiliate, WYFF4, testing their semester project in Littlejohn Coliseum.”
