Musicians raise millions

On Thursday, November 12, 2009 the Skipp Pearson, the state of South Carolina’s official ambassador of jazz music, and a group of master musicians traveled to New York City to provide a gift in–kind service of a performance in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The 20th Annual “Taste of New York” was presented at Pier Sixty /The Lighthouse attended by Wall Street executives from most of the major financial houses in attendance. More than $1.6 million dollars was raised to benefit cancer research and to assist in finding cures for catastrophic diseases that attack children.
Participating master musicians: Skipp Pearson on tenor and alto sax, Robbie Madison, on trumpet, Reggie Sullivan on bass, Ivan Edwards on drums, Jeremy Roberson on percussion, Nick Brewer on piano, Mitch Butler on trombone, and featured guest vocalist Cheri Marree.
All artist gave of their time and talents. The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation was created to foster a greater appreciation of jazz music and to preserve the history and continue the development of jazz music in South Carolina.
