Edna Earle Burriss
Funeral services for Edna Earle Burriss (Teddy) Nance, 89, of Columbia, was held Tuesday November 24, 2009, at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 3 pm with the Rev. Eric Dye and Rev. Kevin Gorry officiating. Entombment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family received guests and friends from 6–8 pm on Monday November 23, 2009, at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 4645 Hard Scrabble Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3100 Covenant Road, Columbia, SC 29204 and/or Northeast United Methodist Church, 4000 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
Mrs. Nance died Sunday November 22, 2009. She was the daughter of the late John Edward and Mattie Davis Burriss. Originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, she was married to the late Robert B. Nance for 50 years. After graduating from New Hanover High School in 1938, she attended business college in Salisbury, N.C. After business college and prior to World War II, she was employed by the Rand Corporation, and with the onset of WWII, Mrs. Nance worked in the anti–aircraft artillery division at Camp Davis in Wilmington, NC. There she met her future husband, Robert. After the war, she married and moved to Columbia while her husband finished law school. Mrs. Nance was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a member of Forest Lake Club.
Mrs. Nance is survived by her five sons and their families, Robert F. Nance (Judy) of Columbia; Edward B. Nance (Beth) of Columbia; Timothy H. Nance (Rosemary) of Columbia; Christopher B. Nance (Betty Faye Hutchinson) of Elgin; and Patrick H. Nance (Carolyn) of Columbia; eight grandchildren and one great grandson.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the hospice care nurse, Cindy Flanagan, and Mrs. Nance’s long–time neighbors, Bob and Gayle Charles.
