After David Lockwood’s name on his Colliers Keenan card is his title, Senior Vice President and Principal, and then fol low SIOR, CCIM, ICSC, CCAR, SCAR, NAR, which mean:

Lockwood served on the board of directors of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce (2004–2009) , on the board of di rector s of Engenui tySC (2004– 2009), and on the board of directors of the City Center Par tner ship (2006–2009), where he is chairman for 2010. Also, he is on the board of directors for Friends of Juvenile Justice, on the board of directors of the Sandhill School, and he serves on the executive committee for Riverland Hills Baptist Church in the Harbison area.
Lockwood was born in Charlotte, where his father was in dry cleaning equipment sales for both Carol inas. Hi s mother was the director of Christian education and a youth leader at thei r church. Lockwood’s sister, older by three years, is married to the assistant football coach at York High School . She has been teaching at York High for 18 years.
From kindergar ten through graduat ion from West Mecklenburg High School, Lockwood stayed in Charlotte. On the side, he developed a commercial green house in the back yard where he sold plants to landscape firms. He also had a business in lawn care, mowing about 25 lawns a week for $10 each. After so many lawns for so long, Lockwood bought himself a used Monte Carlo during his junior year in high school. Two years later, he bought a more recent model.
Lockwood went to Clemson to major in agr icultural education and to minor in political science. He s tayed involved wi th campus matters for the full four years, even running for student body president his junior year, where he finished a tight, respectable third. At the time, Clemson had less than 11,000 in the student body, and now the number is about 18,000.
With two internships with Monsanto dur ing two summers whi le at Clemson, Lockwood joined Monsanto in At lanta to kick of f his career. Af ter nine months, he heard Monsanto wanted to move him to Iowa, but he didn’t want to go so he joined Charlotte–based Planning Research Corporat ion, which managed the Multiple Listing Service in the area, to include Greenvi l le, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, and Columbia. After two years wi th PRC, Lockwood located in Columbia wi th the Keenan Company, now Colliers Keenan, in commercial office leasing.
In December 1986, not long after the 1986 Congress erased many of the real estate advantages of the Economic Recover y Act of 1981, Lockwood went to work, hard work, in the commercial real estate business during a significant downturn.
By 1992, Lockwood had moved into management at Keenan as head of leas ing. Al so around the time Lockwood took cont rol of leasing, Keenan Insurance spun off, as later did Keenan Development Associates, leaving Colliers Keenan as concentrations in commercial real estate leasing, sales, and proper ty management.
According to Lockwood, the Great Reces- sion bottomed out last summer, al though he expects steady but slow growth out of it, nothing speedy on the rebound.
Wife Lesli Allen Lockwood and her husband have two children. The daughter, Kimberly, is a sophomore at Wofford major ing in economics. She is fluent in Spanish. The son, Carr, is a sophomore at Sandhi lls School. Carr is a.k.a. David Carr Lockwood IV. Lesli Lockwood is a teacher of English (as a second language) with Lexington District 5. Their house is in the Ascot section of Irmo.
Lockwood’s workdays typical ly begin wi th a 5 am ar r ival at the Northwest YMCA on Kennerly, and his arrival at Colliers Keenan in the Wilbur Smith Tower at the corner of Ger vai s and Sumter is always before 7:30 am.
