All veterans deserve assistance
It was stated on the news Nov. 11 that some funds have come into South Carolina ( by the effort of our honorable Lt. Andre Bauer). These funds are to be used to assist veterans in their effort to stay in their homes ( instead of their having to go into “nursing homes,” nevertheless; I’m told the funds are to be used in a trial program in three areas beginning in Charleston, S. C. and two other places for one year. This plan is ludicrous.
Why provide full service to a chosen few veterans? There are many veterans, including some in my own family, who would feel blessed if they had some one just to cut the grass and clean their homes once a week so they could stay in their own homes plus this would serve more than just one purpose. It would provide jobs for other non–veterans. My hometown, Union, S.C., is in an economical quagmire. There are men there who have served in WWII. They are near 90 years old or older. They deserve assistance as well as any other person who has put his life on the front lines to protect our homeland. Where is equality in giving all of the funds to three areas? I disagree with this plan. It’s not right.
