We Are Olympia met Monday, November 16. Sergeant Baggot with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department reported on crime in the area. He said a robbery occurred on the 1100 block of Olympia Avenue. On the 400 block of Florida Street, there was a theft from a motor vehicle. An aggravated assault occurred on Kentucky Street.
A volunteer meeting for the Olympia Festival will be held on Tuesday December 1 beginning at 6 at Whaley Street Methodist Church.
Joseph Azar, a candidate for mayor, spoke to the crowd. He announced that his candidacy is centered on three points: finances, helping city employees, and growing Columbia from within. “To sum up my campaign in two words,” Azar said, “Those two words would be communication and cooperation.”
The mayoral election will be held April 6, 2010.
The next We are Olympia meeting will be held on December 16.
