The Richland Northeast Cavaliers (5–6, 5–2) concluded their regular season campaign with a 36–6 drubbing of region rival Orangeburg– Wilkinson at Harry Parone Stadium Friday, November 6. After starting 0–4, the Cavaliers won five of their final seven games to earn a playoff date against defending 4A Division II state champion South Pointe on the road November 13.

The Cavaliers wasted little time driving 77 yards in 6:24 on their first possesion of the game. Running back Darius Paulk had six carries for 49 yards, and quarterback Kersean Wilson ran five times for 21 yards including a 10–yard scamper to the end zone to put RNE up 7–0 with Daniel Passament’s extra point.

The Bruins first possession ended in a safety when the snap sailed over quarterback Joshua Charles’s head and into the end zone. Charles managed to pick the ball up and pass to running back Roderick Davenport, but Bryce Fisher caught him before he crossed the goal line giving RNE a 9–0 lead.

A few plays later, Paulk ran straight up the gut for a 26–yard touchdown. Passament’s extra point made it 16–0 with 2:35 to play in the first quarter.

The Bruins finally got on the board at the 3:05 mark of the second quarter. Facing a fourth–and–16 at the RNE 22 yard line, Charles lobbed a pass to the end zone. Kentrell Disher leaped over an RNE defender, tipped the ball to himself and made, what turned out to be, a record breaking grab. The catch was Disher’s 104th reception – a new state record.

The Cavaliers extended the lead with 5:51 remaining in the third quarter when La’Derrick Cohens intercepted a Bruin pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown. Passament’s extra point made it 23–6, RNE.

The Bruins responded with a 75–yard drive to the RNE five yard line, but K’sone Williams’ pass on fourth– and–goal from the five fell incomplete. Five minutes later, Wilson hit Jeremy Posey cutting down the middle of the field for a 40–yard touchdown pass. Passament’s extra point made it 30–6.

RNE’s Chris Branch then intercepted Charles’s pass on the next play from scrimmage. Three plays later, back–up QB #11 ran from eight yards out to give the final of 36–6.

Paulk finished with 214 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
