Help a child this Christmas

Contributed by Rachel C. Hammond, Community Relations Coordinator

Carolina Children’s Home is working diligently to provide Christmas gifts for 60+ children who’ve probably never had one before.

This year you can make Christmas a special time at Carolina Children’s Home by sponsoring a resident or cottage, volunteering to wrap gifts, or by simply making a donation. During this season of giving, think about being an important part of a child’s life through one of the following ways.

Sponsor a child: When you sponsor a child you are given his or her Wish List with the understanding that you can buy all the items on the list or choose only a few to purchase. The kids will ask for both practical and fun items and open their gifts on Christmas Day.

Become a cottage sponsor: The Home’s children live in cottages with as many as 16 kids in each cottage. By sponsoring a cottage, you can give a gift that all the residents can enjoy. These gifts can be group gifts: gift cards to the movies, gift certificates for haircuts or manicures.

Wrap gifts: If giving financially this year is not possible, don’t worry. The Home always needs volunteers to donate their time to help wrap gifts. We invite both individuals and groups to come to campus and wrap during the month of December.

Give a donation through the Guardian Angel Project: When you donate $10 or more the Home will honor a loved one with a personalized letter, a bookmark, and a note indicating you as the giver of this very special gift.

The holidays can be a hard time for our residents, yet donors and staff work hard at the Home to make it enjoyable. Keeping in mind the true meaning of Christmas, the Home encourages the community to get involved this holiday season by making this a special time of year for an adolescent living at Carolina Children’s Home.
