Flood warning lights now operable
The project to install flashing warning lights at Whaley Street and Main Street is complete, and the lights are operational. The lights were installed to provide an extra level of safety to motorists during flood conditions, as this is an area that is prone to flooding and motorists tend to attempt to travel through the water, ignoring the apparent danger that exists. This not only puts the motorist in danger, but also the emergency personnel dispatched to help make the rescue.
The flashing lights were designed to turn on when the water level reaches flood stage and will be triggered by the rain gauge that was installed in the creek several years ago. The flashers will remain on until the water level recedes and the City has cleaned any debris out of the street, which is necessary for safe passage. City personnel/ Street Division will turn it off.
