Columbia’s World Affairs Council presents Global Vision Awards

Delegates from Yibin, Columbia’s Sister City, meet with officials for breakfast
      Delegates from Columbia’s Sister City in China, Yibin City, met with representatives from the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, the S.C. Department of Commerce, the local World Affairs Council, and the Columbia Office of Economic Development at a breakfast meeting at the Hilton October 29. Yibin City is where the Yangtze River is formed at the confluence of the Min and Jinsha rivers.

Church Women United honors “Peacemakers”
      The Columbia Unit of Church Women United International observed the national Human Rights Celebration at Northminster Presbyterian Church Friday, October 2, 2009. In a program “Seeking Shalom,” CWU honored 22 local heros/heroines who were identified as “peacemakers” in their communities.

City Police Department opens Devine Street branch
      At 2132 Devine Street is a new police station. Actually, it’s a relocated branch station that was at 2632 Millwood Ave., and it’s called the new South Region Headquarters. Besides practicing sensible adaptive reuse of the former Centry 21 office, the Police Department can rent parking to employees in Five Points, freeing up shopfront spaces for customers.
