International Day of Peace at Killian Elementary

Killian students and faculty, along with members of the military, celebrate “International Day of Peace.” Killian students and faculty, along with members of the military, celebrate “International Day of Peace.” Last month students of Killian Elementary School celebrated their ninth annual guidance sponsored “International Day of Peace Program.”

Students and staff held a commemorative celebration in memory of those lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan – and countless terrorist attacks across the globe. It was also to recognize the courage of our military soldiers, airmen, Marines, and sailors who stand firm daily to protect the freedoms we enjoy.

The speaker for the occasion was Captain Kamili M. Williamson (US Army) and father of Kindergartner Tyler Williamson.

Other military representatives included: United States Navy – Yoeman Second Class Danita Smith (mother of Kiyana Smith); United States Air Force – CMSgt Perry Langston (Spring Valley Air Force ROTC); United States Marines – Corporal Calvin Logan. Parent honorees included: United States Army - SSG Steven Chapman – (father of Abagail Chapman); SSG Ricardo Griffith (father of Rachel Griffith); SFC Kai Jackson (mother of Henriette Mayes); 2LT Rachel McQueen (mother of Janiah McQueen, SFC Jermal Washington (father of Joseph and Jakirshta Washington) and United States Air Force – SSG Otis Starks, III (father of Otis Starks, IV).

Recipients of the annual “Peacemaker Awards” were Sheron Hayes, second grade teacher, and Alexis Carwise, fourth grade teacher.

Recipient of the annual “Everyday Hero Award” was Delores Williams (grandmother of Otis Starks, IV and School SASI Coordinator).
