Leadership Columbia project underway
Leadership Columbia class of 2009
Leadership Columbia (LC) started in 1973. “The Mission of Leadership Columbia is to offer a program for Greater Columbia’s promising leaders that helps them better understand how their community works, build relationships with fellow leaders, and be-come inspired to focus their talents in best service to the Midlands.”
LC meets once per month for a full day and class covers topics such as arts and culture, political systems, environment, crime, victims and justice, among others. Each year’s class plans and carries out a class project.
The current Leadership Columbia class has 63 students whose project is a multi–faceted renovation of the Hannah House. The Hanna House is transitional housing in downtown Columbia for women and children. The Hannah House helps to empower these women through jobs skills training, life skills classes, and one–on– one mentorship relationships.
The LC class plans to renovate the building and begin a financial literacy program for the women to help them regain and maintain independence in addition to other tasks.
The class is asking for donations that will be used 100% towards the project. Contact Erin Granger at 733-1123 for more information.
