Trailing 17–14 with 4:08 remaining in the game and facing third–and–12 from Spring Valley’s 45– yard line, Blythewood quarterback Daniel Young fired a pass to a leaping Damar Hall at the 25–yard line. Hall gathered himself and raced to the end zone for what turned out to be the winning touchdown in Blythewood’s 21–17 dramatic come–from–behind victory at Harry Parone Stadium Friday, October 9.

The Vikings jumped on Blythewood early with an 11–play, 63–yard drive. Spring Valley running back Markese Mason did most of the damage rushing seven times for 33 yards including the final five yards for the touchdown with 3:24 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bengals answered right back converting a third–and–12 when Young found Morgan Evans for a 16–yard gain setting the Bengals up at the Spring Valley 47–yard line. Blythewood running back Brandon Wilds then continued his great season with a 36–yard romp, followed by two more runs that eventually landed him in the end zone to tie the score 7–7 with 13 seconds to play in the first quarter.

The Vikings started the third quarter at the Blythewood 37–yard line thanks to Jarrion Manning’s interception on the Bengals’ first play of the second half.

The Vikings turned to Mason again who rushed seven times for 31 yards including the final four yards for the go–ahead touchdown with 6:54 remaining in the third quarter.

On Spring Valley’s next possession, quarterback Austin Hill scrambled 27 yards on a third–and–16 play to set the Vikings up at the Blythewood 46–yard line. Mason then went to work again running eight times for 18 hard yards, but Spring Valley had to settle for a Kevin Knapp field goal to make the score 17–7 with 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The teams traded punts, but Blythewood won the field position battle getting the ball at the 50–yard line. Five plays later, Young hit Hall in the left corner of the end zone to tighten the score at 17–14 with 8:04 to play.

The Blythewood defense held, setting up the winning drive and the second Young to Hall connection for the game winner.

The Vikings drove 51 yards to the Bengal 27–yard line, aided by their own immaculate reception when Hill’s pass to Tobias Young was deflected and miraculously pulled from the air by Leroy Coad for a 36–yard gain. But it was not to be, because the drive was killed when Evan Lanford intercepted Hill’s pass several plays later at the 18–yard line to effectively end the game.

Wilds finished with 121 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Young completed five passes on 16 attempts for 147 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Hall had two receptions for 61 yards, both of which were touchdowns. Harrison Goins led Blythewood with 15 tackles. Curtis Hill added 14 including four–for–loss.

Mason rushed 41 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns for Spring Valley. Hill completed 9 passes on 20 attempts for 82 yards and an interception. Marcus Bullard led the Vikings with nine tackles and a sack.
