Track team makes its own Woodstock
The USC Track Team of the 1970s gathered to honor Tom Dempsey whose picture is being held by Jim Schaper. Also on the front row left a place is being held for Dickie Harris who could not make the reunion. All the men on the front row have made the peace sign with their fingers.
College sports teams train together, eat together, bunk together, travel together, and out of this comes a comaradarie that in this case has lasted over 30 years. When the USC track teams of the 1970s cir- culated emails that one of their own was in trouble, plans began to be made. The result was men came from all over the country for a three–day reunion September 24–27 in Columbia to pay tribute to Tom Dempsey, who is in the hospital in Michigan.
For three days 50 friends swapped stories and caught up. As their T–shirts said, they enjoyed a slice of heaven with three days of peace and music. After the weekend, Rod Dalton said he was exhausted, but was much the wiser with all of his old and new brothers and sisters.
