• Spring Valley Guidance Department will be taking students on college tours during the month of October. The tours are as follows: October 1 — Furman & Clemson October 8 — College of Charleston and Charleston Southern October 15 — Coastal Carolina and Francis Marion October 29 — Winthrop and Presbyterian Colleges

• The College Board has released SAT scores for the senior class of 2009. Most colleges look at the combined verbal and math scores for students. Writing is the third section of the SAT Reasoning Test. Spring Valley High School: verbal – 520, math – 556, writing – 509: total verbal + math = 1076, total = 1585

Essential by Susan K. Green and Robert L. Johnson. Students at USC will be using the book as their textbook for their assessment class.

Spring Valley parent Dr. Kwame Dawes and his team recently won a News and Documentary Emmy Award for “Living and Loving with HIV in Jamaica” in the category of “New Approaches to News and Documentary Programming: Arts, Lifestyle, & Culture.” He is the father of Sena (12), Kekeli (11), and Akua Dawes (9) and the wife of SIC member, Lorna Dawes.
