Blue Devils pluck Shamrocks
Dreher's Adler Armstrong closes in on Eau Claire's running back. On a cool September Friday Night, the Dreher Blue Devils entered the win column with a decisive 35- 6 win over Eau Claire. Sheldon Van Dyke had two touchdowns rushing and one receiving, while Leonard Kennedy chipped in a rushing touchdown of his own to carry Dreher to the victory.
Dreher's defense tightened up forcing the Shamrocks to punt the ball away on their first possession. The Blue Devils put together a long, time consuming drive with a heavy dose of running.
Van Dyke, Kennedy, and Devante Sims each carried the ball numerous times for the Blue Devils on the drive. The trio of running backs got Dreher inside the Eau Claire ten- yard line, where Van Dyke finished the drive off with a three- yard touchdown, putting Dreher up 7- 0 early.
The Shamrocks answered the Dreher score with a touchdown drive of their own, but the extra point was blocked making the score 7- 6.
Dreher was held to a three- and- out on the next series forcing a punt. However, a Shamrock mistake gave Dreher the ball when one of the Eau Claire return men accidentally touched the rolling ball, and a Dreher defender fell on it. A key fourth down run from Jackson Edwards kept the drive alive for the Blue Devils. Kennedy added a 15- yard run on the following play to put Dreher in scoring position. Two plays later Van Dyke scored for the second time with a five- yard run to put Dreher up 14- 6.
Dreher's Leonard Kennedy runs for yardage against Eau Claire. Eau Claire was held to a three- and- out on the next possession. A bad snap allowed the Dreher defenders to tackle the Eau Claire punter at the ten- yard line, giving Dreher a first- and- goal. On the first play following the punting error, quarterback Jackson Edwards found Van Dyke for a ten- yard touchdown strike. The extra point extended the Dreher lead to 21- 6.
Following a Rashon Fenderson interception, a 19- yard pass from Edwards to Bud Jeter helped put Dreher in scoring position. Two plays later, Kennedy ran it in from 12 yards out. Dreher held a 28- 6 lead at halftime.
The Blue Devils finished the scoring off early in the third quarter. Van Dyke, Kennedy, and Sims again combined to move the ball into the red zone. Kennedy ran for 35 yards on three carries while Sims had 22 yards on three carries. However, it was Edwards who carried the ball the final yard for the score. The extra point provided the final score of 35- 6.
