Columbia authors speaks to St. Andrews Rotary Club
Pictured with Hattie Halsey are St. Andrews Rotary Club President Scotty Griffin (left) and Rotary Program Chair, Colonel Pete Sercer, USAF(Retired). Hattie Halsey, author, spoke to the St. Andrews Rotary Club September 8, 2009.
Halsey retired from state government after 28 years of service. She is now employed with the City of Columbia as the deputy director of human resources.
Halsey is a child of the U.S. Navy. She began her high school years at Perryville High School, Perryville, Maryland, where she met Debbie, her co- writer. The friendship did not die away over time when her father received orders in 1973 to move to South Carolina.
Hattie was born in Cavite City, Philippines. She and her husband Charles have been married for 31 years and have two daughters, Jessie and Heather.
Writing, Hattie's first hobby, is almost always on her mind mainly because, as she puts it: "Just about anything I see would or could be a good scene for one of our stories." Even as she is working on the remodeling, her mind is working out a scene for a story. She also likes to walk through antique malls, finding nice things from the past (at a good price) some of which she uses for her booksigning table, if it fits the stories.
Hattie and her cowriter Debbie have been published with Publish America LLLP of Frederick, Maryland since January 2001, under the author name of C.C. Colee. The one name is a combination of their pen names Chris Cole and Cody Lee. Together they have published eight books.
