SCCADVASA presents 'Til Death Do Us Part
Nicole Brown Simpson South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA) is pleased to announce 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, an event to observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2009 and special guest speaker Tanya Brown. This event has been planned by SCCADVASA to increase awareness and prevention of domestic abuse in the state of South Carolina.
'TIL DEATH DO US PART will be held in Columbia at the Clarion Hotel on October 8, 2009, from 6- 8:30 pm. During this event speaker Tanya Brown will talk personally about many issues surrounding domestic and sexual violence and her famous, late sister: Nicole Brown Simpson. All members of the community are invited to this event to hear Tanya Brown speak and offer guidance.
SCCADVASA welcomes everyone from all areas of South Carolina to participate. Tanya Brown has become well- known for moving and saving lives through her personal accounts and many words of wisdom regarding domestic abuse and violence.
At this event she will share her sister's private and highly public battle with domestic violence and will also affirm her audience with stories of her family's triumph over her sister's most sad and unfortunate death.
Nicole Brown Simpson was brutally beaten and killed in 1994 and currently
remains known as a national symbol for battered
women across the nation. Nicole Brown Simpson's story has unleashed a huge wave of support for victims of domestic violence and has brought the issue to the forefront of America's eyes as a serious problem that must be dealt with properly.
Since the tragic death of Brown Simpson, many women have become more willing to acknowledge they have been abused at some point in their lives and to seek the help that they need.
South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (SCCADVASA) represents all of the domestic violence programs and rape crisis centers in South Carolina, addresses the critical needs of victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, supports domestic violence and sexual assault member programs, provides education and advocates social reform to help eradicate interpersonal violence in this state.
As a non- profit organization founded in 1981, SCCADVASA is the leader in creating awareness of domestic and sexual violence in South Carolina. The organization provides crisis intervention, safe shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, financial aid, and other services intended to support and aid victims.
Domestic and sexual violence is a constant serious issue in South Carolina. Fortunately, it is starting to receive more attention from the state as well as individual communities. South Carolina is currently ranked 2nd in the nation for domestic abuse; five positions higher from previous years.
Police officers responded to over 35,000 cases of domestic and sexual violence in 2007. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and SCCADVASA is working with a dedicated group of South Carolina citizens to offer this event in efforts to decrease the numbers of injuries and deaths resulting from domestic and sexual violence.
