PalmettoPride says Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, and Wofford College are participating in the 2009 Collegiate Recycling Program. These schools work with PalmettoPride to coordinate recycling efforts for students and visitors attending home football games.

The Collegiate Recycling program gives PalmettoPride, the state's anti- litter organization, an opportunity to educate college- age students and football fans on the issue of litter and provides for recycling programs at stadiums. In 2008, PalmettoPride was able to reach more than 580,000 people with their anti- litter messages at these schools' home games.

Clemson University has been involved with this program for two (2) years. Solid Green, Clemson Athletics and Students for Environmental Awareness coordinate recycling in areas where tailgaters gather before and after games. This year, Coca- Cola has joined Clemson and Palmetto- Pride as a sponsor donating recycling bins and prizes for fans who recycle.

Wofford College joined the program last year. This will be its first complete football season to participate. Wofford Athletics coordinates efforts at Gibbs Stadium with volunteer help collecting recyclables from tailgaters around the stadium.

Coastal Carolina University (CCU) also joined the program last year. This will be its first complete football season to participate. CCU Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative coordinates efforts on- campus. Recycling bins are located in and around Brooks Stadium as well as in parking lots used for tailgating.

PalmettoPride provides a two- year grant to colleges and universities to start recycling at stadiums. The grant provides for bins, bags, and t- shirts for volunteers and maintenance of equipment. Each school is responsible for providing volunteers, publicizing the program through PSAs during the game, and coordinating the removal and recycling of materials gathered.
