For a book that's almost 50 years old, Go, Dog. Go! is still kicking. Published in 1961, P.D. Eastman's children's classic still remains a first reading experience for many children and Columbia Children's Theatre is bringing a faithful adaptation to the stage September 18 through September 27 at their new space in Midtown at Forest Acres. Show times are Fridays at 7:00, Saturdays at 10:30 AM & 2:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00. For a book that's almost 50 years old, Go, Dog. Go! is still kicking. Published in 1961, P.D. Columbia Children's Theatre features productions by professional directors, actors, writers, and designers all focused on delivering an interactive experience for all ages. The Theatre is committed to providing affordable programming that speaks across cultural, ethnic, and generational boundaries.

The 2009- 2010 season, a season of favorites, begins September 18, 2009, with the opening performance of the popular show

Go, Dog, Go. Show times are Fridays 7 pm, Saturdays 10:30 am and 2 pm, and Sundays 3 pm on the weekends of September 18, 20, 25 and 27.

This fall, Columbia Children's Theatre also begins its after school theatre program for school children.

For students ages kindergarten through third grade, Creative Dramatics for Early Years will be held every Tuesday from 4:30- 5:30 from September 15 to November 3.

Creative Dramatics for Early Years takes students on a journey exploring the actor's tool box and how these tools help in the creation of character, story, and dialogue. Utilizing innovative approaches to arts education for the elementary grades, Creative Dramatics for Early Years leads campers through the basics of pantomime, improvisation, and beginning acting techniques. Students showcase their work in an improvised production at the end of the session.

For students ages fourth grade to eighth grade, Kids Stage! classes are offered on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm. These classes run from September 17 to November 5. KidStage!, an eight week theatre "bootcamp" is designed to give aspiring young performers the opportunity to work on fully- mounted productions in a professional training environment. Each session includes training in pantomime, vocal and physical characterization, musical theatre movement, acting and design, and is centered around a specific play, addressing the rehearsal and production process from audition through strike. KidStage! culminates in a fully- mounted production with costumes, lighting and sets performed in front of a live audience on the last day of class!

Tony Scully, a member of the Board of Directors for the Columbia Children's Theatre, says "Theatre teaches us what it means to be a social being, especially how to express ourselves verbally and how to communicate with one another with stories and humor. Jerry Stevenson, (CCT's artistic director,) like all great teachers, is a child at heart. He's a brilliant performer and singer, and of course, a remarkably skilled director, but perhaps his greatest talent is his ability to make theatre fun. The children love the Columbia Children's Theatre performances."

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, The Columbia Children's Theatre held a gala to kick-off its new season in the renovated space at Midtown of Forest Acres. The evening featured music by The Blue Serenade band, food by Aberdeen Catering, and a silent auction organized by the theatre's new steering committee.
