Eagles bully Bearcats
B- C's TK Graves runs for yardage against Chapin. On Friday September 4, the Chapin Eagles defeated the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats 45- 7 at The Cage. The score was close early on in the first quarter, but the Chapin offense turned up the heat to open the gap and come away with an impressive win.
The Bearcats struck first in the first quarter. After B- C's Daishawn Brown intercepted Chapin's Michael Weimer and returned the ball inside the Chapin 30- yard line, the Bearcats seized an opportunity. An 18- yard pass from Zack Warner to Vernard Collins gave Brookland- Cayce the ball inside the Chapin ten yard line. Three plays later TK Graves scored from nine yards out on a third- and- goal. The extra point gave the Bearcats an early 7- 0 lead.
The Eagles answered with a short drive. After two straight runs from Josh Sanga produced a seven- yard gain, Weimer hit Joe Rister for a medium gain, but Rister out ran a couple of Brookland- Cayce defenders to the end zone for a 63- yard reception. The extra point tied the score at 7- 7.
Later on in the first quarter, the Eagles started at the Brookland- Cayce 25- yard line. Three plays into the drive, Weimer hit Rister again for the score, this time from 23 yards out. The extra point gave Chapin a 14- 7 lead.
The Chapin defense forced the Bearcats into a three- and- out late in the first quarter, setting up Chapin's next scoring drive to start the second quarter. Again the Eagles began in Bearcat territory, at the 33- yard line. A quick 28- yard run by Sanga, put Chapin inside the Brookland- Cayce ten yard line. Two plays later, Chapin scored when Victor Frick ran from four yards out. The extra point extended the lead to 21- 7. Later in the second quarter, Frick found the end zone again on a seven play, 58- yard drive stretching Chapin's lead to 28- 7.
The scoring wasn't done for the Eagles in the first half. Late in the quarter, Weimer found Frick for his third touchdown of the night, with a 41- yard touchdown pass. The extra point gave Chapin a 35- 7 lead at halftime.
Chapin received the opening kickoff of the second half and put the game away. Sanga highlighted the drive with two big runs of 35 and five yards, to put Chapin into Brookland- Cayce territory. On the next play, Weimer found tight end, Conner Lowder, for a 22- yard touchdown pass. The extra point extended the lead to 42- 7.
The Eagles finished off the scoring late in the third quarter. They started the drive from their own 48- yard line. They overcame two penalties, a false start, and a personal foul to set up for a 41- yard field goal to provide the final score of 45- 7.
