Bruce Richard Hunt

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather Bruce Richard Hunt passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana. Born April 28, 1918, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana., he was 91 years old at his passing. He spent most of his working life in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has resided at the Franklin United Methodist Community (FUMC) in Franklin, Indiana for the past 25 years.

The funeral was Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 2 pm with the Reverend John Eley, pastor, FUMC, officiating at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, Indiana, 46131. Services began at 2 pm with visitation from 12 pm till service time at the Wright Chapel. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin is handling the arrangements. Entombment will follow with full military honors at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Mr. Hunt earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Louisiana State

University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 1938 he went to work for The Morning

Advocate/State Times in Baton Rouge as a staff reporter and photographer. An Air Force Lieutenant during World War II, he served as a communications officer stationed in Iceland then New York. He was a gifted writer with a charming personality. Hence careers in journalism, public relations, research, and writing/editing followed spanning over four decades. He ghost authored two nonfiction books during his tenure as public relation director at Stark Wetzel in Indianapolis. At Burkhart Publishing Company, he served as contributing editor and later retired from Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis in 1983 as director of capital research.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Laing Hunt, a son Roy Hunt and wife Cathy Dyer Hunt of Praireville, Louisiana; a daughter Dee Hunt Davitt Hamilton and husband W. P. "Fee" Hamilton Jr. of Baton Rouge; stepsons Larry G. Lewallen and wife Susan of Columbia, South Carolina; Steve Laing and wife Michelle of Franklin. He also leaves four step daughters Peggy Lang Harsin and husband Mike of Indianapolis; Linda Laing Pope of Kentucky; Pam Laing Morphew of Indianapolis; and Terri Laing of Franklin; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, ten step grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren. He is also survived by five nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Stanley and Leulla Schnell Hunt; sisters Gladys Hunt Rowe and husband Fred, Evelyn Hunt Walker and husband John; former wives Ruth Ward Hunt Simpson and Doris Galvin Hunt.
