FACT: Over 23,000 dogs and cats enter municipal shelters each year in Richland and Lexington Counties.

FACT: More than 19,500 of these adoptable pets are euthanized each year due to lack of shelter space and resources.

FACT: 13,000 of the dogs and cats euthanized are healthy, happy pets ready for a new home, and 4,000 of those pets are purebreds.

FACT: A dog or cat picked up by animal control has FIVE days to live.

FACT: A pet that is surrendered by its owner to a shelter is euthanized the same day with no chance for adoption. FACT: $2.5 million taxpayer dollars are spent each year to pick- up, house, and euthanize these pets.
