Brennen Elementary guidance counselor visits the Sudan
     This summer Brennen Elementary guidance counselor Diane Ryan visited the Sudan in Africa where she volunteered to work with elementary and high school students and shared effective teaching strategies with staff. Pictured are Ryan (far right back corner) along with Sudanese students in a fifth- grade boys' math classroom that was meeting outside because of a power outage.

NASA Aerospace specialist visits Forest Heights Elementary
     NASA aerospace specialist Dynae Fullwood (center, standing) visited Forest Heights Elementary School August 4- 5 to share the latest techniques teachers can use to make science, math, and technology more interesting and challenging for their students. Fullwood's presentations included a live link to NASA's Langley Space Research Center in Virginia and hands- on workshops with fifth- graders.

Coldwater Creek associates volunteer at Killian Elementary
     Coldwater Creek sales associates served as volunteers at Killian Elementary the first week of each month during the 2008- 2009 school year. These volunteers worked in the classrooms and provided assistance to the students as well as the teachers. Through this partnership Coldwater Creek donated $1,000 to the school. These funds were used to purchase mater ials to enhance the school's reading program.

Richland One seeks public input on renaming Keenan Theatre
      The Richland One Board of School Commissioners is seeking public input on a request to rename the W.J. Keenan Theatre (at the former site of Keenan High School on Pine Belt Road, now W.G. Sanders Middle School) in honor of Freddie E. Grace Jr., a 26- year employee of Richland One who passed away in April.
