On Thursday August 27, the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets defeated the Dreher Blue Devils 34- 7 at Memorial Stadium. The Blue Devils trailed 13- 7 at halftime, but a flurry of points in the second half by Lower Richland put the game out of reach.

The Diamond Hornets received the ball to start the game. They drove the ball down the field, led by quarterback John Worthy who complete his first two passes to move the ball into Dreher territory. Facing an early third down, Worthy pitched the ball to senior running back DeVante Wright for a seven- yard gain and a first down. Wright capped off the drive three plays later with a seven- yard touchdown run. The extra point gave Lower Richland an early 7- 0 lead.

The Blue Devils answered with a scoring drive of their own relying heavily on the run. Senior running back, Leonard Kennedy, led the charge for Dreher. He had a 22- yard run on a fourth down play. Then four plays later, Kennedy ran 35 yards for a touchdown. The extra point tied the score at 7- 7.

Neither team mounted anything the rest of the first quarter and both were plagued by costly penalties and turnovers. It wasn't until late in the second quarter that the tie was broken. Lower Richland took over possession, when the Blue Devils failed to convert on a fake punt attempt. Key passes from Worthy to both Ethan Adams and Desmond Wallace helped to move the ball into Dreher territory. Two runs by Wright moved the Diamonds to the Dreher one- yard line, and Worthy punched it into the end zone. The extra point was blocked giving Lower Richland the 13- 7 lead at halftime.

As the second half began, the Blue Devils drove the ball deep into Lower Richland territory. However, Lower Richland's defense stiffened and dropped Kennedy for a five- yard loss derailing the drive for Dreher.

After Lower Richland was forced to punt, the Blue Devils once again drove the ball deep into Lower Richland territory, but Kennedy fumbled the ball inside the five- yard line. The fumble gave Lower Richland a much needed spark. Two plays later, Jaylin Scott took a delayed handoff and scooted 96 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion, a pass from Worthy to Michael Brown, made the score 21- 7.
