Jamie Devine Jamie Devine Although Richland One just started the new school year, students, staff and leaders are being recognized for outstanding accomplishments.

• Richland One Class of 2009, state's third- highest scholarship total

Richland One's Class of 2009, which earned more than $50.5 million in college scholarship and financial aid offers, not only shattered the district scholarship record this year, but adds another honor to its list of achievements.

Figures recently released by the State Department of Education indicate that Richland One's 2009 graduates amassed the state's third- highest scholarship total. The agency collected totals from all South Carolina school districts including public charter schools and other special schools.

• Richland One graduates awarded Nat ional Engineering Scholarship

Columbia High graduates Quashawn Felder and Isiah Hamilton were awarded the 2009 National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) Pre- Engineering Scholars. Their selection puts them in an elite group with 41 of the nation's highest- achieving students. Recipients, who must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, and a commitment to science and engineering as career goals will be awarded $1,500 toward the cost of their undergraduate tuition.

Susan Dibble Susan Dibble • Richland One school commissioners recognized

Three members of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners have earned recognition by the SC School Boards Association (SCSBA) for achievement in the association's 2008- 2009 Boardmanship Institute.

Commissioners Jamie Devine, Susan Dibble and Rob Tyson participated in the Institute, which offers a year- round training curriculum to help board members develop skills and stay abreast of state and national educational issues. Workshops focus on school law, school finance, legislation, improving board operations, leadership for improving student achievement, and other timely topics. The SCSBA is the statewide professional organization for the state's 85 local school boards.

• Logan Elementar y dance teacher wins double honors

Terrance Henderson Terrance Henderson Terrance Henderson, who has been an artist- in- residence at Logan Elementary School for several years, has been named a 2010 Dance Performance Fellow by the S.C. Arts Commission. Also, on July 25 in Chicago, Henderson received the Jazz Dance World Congress Bronze Leo Award for Outstanding Choreography for "Stand," choreographed for and performed by Vibrations Dance Company, a dance company that Henderson has been with since 1999.
