Friday night, August 28, Richland Northeast will play Spring Valley at Harry Parone Stadium at 7:30. This football rivalry is not only on the field but off of the field as well. During the game, students will be collecting money for either side for CCKC. At the end of every quarter, an announcement will be made of which school is in the lead for donations.

This charity is close to my heart because it was started by my sister- in- law, Grainne Owen, and brother, Clay Owen, after my nine- year- old nephew, Killian, lost his battle with leukemia. You can read the whole story at www.coachescuringkidscancer. org

What makes this story so interesting and close to those at RNE is that Coach Rodney Summers' son, Bryce, had leukemia and is now doing well. Coach Summers has been so enthusiastic and has spear- headed this event. One of the events during spirit week is a competition between the RNE coaches. The coach who get $100 or more (donated by students) will have to wear a dress to the pep rally. The coach who raises the most money will have to share his legs at the pep rally. We will be promoting this on RNE's morning show as well.

My daughter, Kitty, is a freshman at RNE and her cousin, Heath, is a sophomore at SV. They will fight to have bragging rights for raising the most money for their school. However, the reality is that they want to help raise money that will go to Palmetto Richland pediatric cancer research. All proceeds from this will go to research. We have already donated over $60,000 over the last few years. Both Kitty and Heath don't want to see anyone else suffer or to lose a loved one to cancer. They miss their cousin and will do what they can to help others.
